[ Which means Kohan will be trying to pick a pace that's somewhere between "just tipsy enough to be saying stupid stuff" Kohan's walking pace and "dude why didn't you eat more to get less drunk" Ion's at-least-still-upright pace. ]

[And Ion will try to match that pace as best as he can, but you know, it's pretty hard to walk when the world won't stop spinning.]

[But hey, he manages! And soon enough, House One starts coming into view... which is where Ion realizes he needs to convince Kohan to leave so he can make his own escape believable.]

I think I can manage it from here, Kohan! Since I walked this whole way and only almost fell over once.

[ Nngh, protective instincts are strong. But on the other hand, Ion's insisting...

IS HE COMING ON TOO STRONG? MAYBE ION'S OPINION OF HIM IS SINKING. GDIT HE KNEW HE SHOULD HAVE SPENT MORE TIME READING THOSE DATING ADVICE BOOKS. ]

... Alright, how about this. I'll stay here and watch, and if you make it halfway to House One from here without falling, I'll start heading back home. Okay?

[He thinks he's coming on too strong?]

All right! I can do that. [And he turns -- but then just as quickly turns back with what can only be described as a goofy smile.] How about a kiss good-bye?


[He's joking. Or at least, he thinks he's joking. He's too drunk to know for sure.]

[ He completely misses Ion's expression as the question plows into his chest like a freight train. A kiss... Ion asked for one, and there's no mistletoe, no reason they should, and it's cold and nippy out and they should just each go back to their respective homes and--

and the alcohol in his system has other things to say about this. And it's running the show right now, a lot more than Kohan wants to admit. So at least there's the consolation that he manages to catch himself leaning down towards Ion, just in time to re-rout his lips to instead press against a red cheek.

The kiss lasts just long enough for Kohan's heart to skip a beat, and then he puts hands on Ion's shoulders and straightens his arms, taking a step back to put some distance between them. Despite the cold he can feel his entire face heating up almost unbearably, and he keeps his gaze firmly fixed on the ground by his feet. ]

There. Now go get some rest.

[To say Ion had been expecting that would be a lie. He didn't know what he was expecting exactly, but it certainly wasn't that. His eyes widen the moment he feels Kohan's lips against his cheek, and for a brief moment of clarity, it strikes him just how out of the ordinary the act was. No malnosso, no mistletoe... just a kiss.]

[But then Kohan pulls back and the moment fades, and suddenly everything is warm and fuzzy again. He doesn't even seem to react to the kiss, outside of that short change of expression.]

[Seemingly oblivious to whatever was going on with Kohan, Ion steps back from him and smiles.]

I will! I promise.

[And then just like that, he turns and skips off towards House One.]



[.....hopefully without falling over.]

[ His face is burning.

Like, burning-burning.

Like, why can't the heat from his face melt him into a puddle because so embarrassed what the hell did he just do.

If there's any consolation, it's that Ion doesn't make anything of it. Maybe he was just joking, but either way the fact that he didn't call Kohan out on the kiss is just enough to keep him from simply Heartless!tunneling away from where he stands.

So he'll just stand here, face BRIGHT red, watching to make sure that Ion doesn't fall. ]

[Don't worry Kohan, Ion isn't out to make your life any more difficult than he already just did. There won't be any falling over here!]

[But once he's stumbled about halfway, he will turn and look back at Kohan -- and give a friendly little wave. See, look, he can totally do this!!]

[And he'll keep turning to look back at Kohan every few steps and wave until he leaves. If only because he needs to check for when Kohan does leave so he can actually make his escape elsewhere.]



[Naturally, the idea that he's done anything wrong in these past few minutes doesn't even cross his mind.]

[ Yeah you have fun in your blissful ignorance Ion. Kohan over here will be nice and relieved that Ion is sober enough that he can walk on his own so Kohan can give an awkward wave back, turn around, and speedwalk home to bury his head under his pillow and then vanish forever. Forever. Okay not forever. Long enough though.
