Hey. Does anyone have suggestions for... [ he hesitates for a moment, before just saying it ] learning to draw? I've been using books in the library, but I don't think I'm getting it. I wanted to know if maybe... someone can tell me what I'm missing.

[ From a couple days ago onwards, Kohan could be found sitting at a desk in the corner of the library, hunched over a sketchpad with a few books strewn open around him. He's just trying to draw figures at this point, but the lines always come out unsteady and the proportions are rather off. Still, he presses on, drawing page after page of shaky, disproportioned people from mid afternoon or so until late into the night.

Housemates are free to notice that he's been coming back home much later than usual. ]

I'm not too sure, but I've always found that it's easiest to head outside and draw whatever I see.

Well, it gives you something material to look at rather than just duplicating pictures in a book. You can sketch it from different angles and distances, and get a real feel for it.

I guess it depends on what you're trying to draw, though.

I was mostly trying to draw people. It seemed like... a book's probably better for that.

... Maybe I shouldn't start with people.

Hmm... I see what you mean. A book probably would be better for things like anatomy. But there's no reason you can't start with drawing people, is there? I mean, when you think about it, we're just a bunch of spheres and cylinders.

You could always try asking some of your friends to pose for you for a little while. Especially if you wanted your drawings to look like someone in particular. And then if they get tired, you can always stop and hang out instead.

Well, I think when it comes to drawing, sometimes it takes a lot of practice.. A lot of people who can draw really well had to study it at school for a long time.
